Abhyanga: This treatment is a full-body application of warm, medicated oil in a rhythmic stroke that pacifies doshas. The Abhyanga makes deep tissues soft and supple, helping to remove stress and nourish the nervous system. Inducing deep relaxation and promoting rejuvenation, Abhyanga is especially good for skin and hair as well as in cases of pain, debility, fatigue, and stiffness. Abhyanga is followed by 15-minute steam in the steam box.

Mukha Abyanga: This warm oil application on the face traces the marma points (vital energy points), leaving clients with a sense of lightness and freshness in all the senses.

Shiro Abyanga: A warm oil application on the head and hair to nourish the scalp and calm mental stress.

Pada Abhyanga: This warm oil application on the feet stimulates the nerve endings and creates a sense of grounding and stress relief.

Sweda at Natural Rhythms Integrative Medicine

Njavarakizhi: In this treatment, 2–4 poultices made of rice and herbal milk are applied and massaged into the body. Especially suitable for degenerative conditions and weakness, Njavarakizhi is both nourishing and strengthening, helping the body heal and recover.

Patrapotala Sweda: In this treatment, 2–4 herbal poultices are warmed and gently tapped along the whole body, tracing the marma (energy) points. A nourishing treatment, Patrapotala Sweda helps the body build tissues and strengthen.

Local Patrapotala: In Local Patrapotala, a local poultice is applied for nourishing and strengthening tissue.

Choorna Sweda: Poultices made with herbal powders are warmed and tapped along the whole body, tracing marma (energy) points. This treatment helps relieve pain and stiffness while helping the body release toxins.

Local Choorna Sweda: This local poultice application helps to relieve stiffness, pain, and detoxify specific areas.

Bashpa: An herbal steam to induce sweating, detox, and improve circulation, Bashpa relaxes the muscles and relieves pain.

Nadi Sweda: A mild oil application is followed by a local herbal steam on areas with pain and stiffness.

Shirodhara: A continuous flow of warm oil onto the center of the forehead over the third eye chakra, Shirodhara soothes the nervous system and helps with stress, anxieties, and sleep issues. In addition, Shirodhara is helpful to relieve headaches, and other types of pain in the head and neck region. The therapy includes a head, face, and foot massage. During Shirodhara, many clients experience a deep state of sleep, which is beneficial and relieves stress.

Ksheeradhara: A continuous flow of medicated milk over the forehead and scalp helps specifically for the treatment of pitta issues and skin disorders. Ksheeradhara is cooling for the body.

Shirodhara

Vasti is a traditional herbal oil application to help deeply penetrate body tissues. A circular well is made with dough and placed on an area to saturate the warm oil. Vasti is a targeted treatment for affected areas, like the low back, eyes, heart, and more.

Kati Vasti: Kati Vasti is the application of warm medicated oil over the lower back. The therapeutic oil and the warmth are deeply nourishing to the base of the spine, the nervous system, and the pelvic area, helping to relieve pain and stiffness as well as releasing stress at the root chakra.

Griva Vasti: In Griva Vasti, warm oil contained in a dough well on the neck helps with upper cervical issues, pain, and stiffness.

Hrud Vasti: Hrud Vasti is the application of warm medicated oil over the heart or chest area. It helps balance and strengthen the heart and lungs as well as release emotional distress.

Janu Vasti: Warm oil contained in a dough well on the knee, Janu Vasti is nourishing for injured or degenerative knees.

Netra Vasti: A lukewarm liquid ghee is poured around the eyes in Netra Vasti to soothe the nervous system as well as many eye problems and facial paralysis.

Karna Vasti: In Karna Vasti, the ears are filled with warm oil. Our ears can take on much distress due to exposure to noise and pollution. This treatment soothes hearing loss, lockjaw, tinnitus, and other similar issues.

Sneha Vasti: An herbal oil enema is administered through the rectum to lubricate the colon, relieving dryness, constipation, and other inflammatory issues that cause colitis.

Decoction Vasti: This therapeutic decoction is administered as an enema through the rectum.

Udvarthanam: Dry herbal powders are scrubbed into the body, helping the herbs penetrate into the adipose (fat tissues) to help the body lose weight and detox.

Pichu: A warm oil compress is applied over a local area of the body to relieve pain, stiffness, or injury. This treatment soothes and nourishes the nerves, muscles, and connective tissue, helping clients to relax, release toxins, and heal.

Bashpa: An herbal steam to induce sweating, detox, and improve circulation, Bashpa relaxes the muscles and relieves pain.

Nasya: In Ayurveda, “The nose is the doorway to the brain and consciousness.” Nasya is the administration of medication given via the nasal passages to directly affect the mind and senses. Symptoms in the sinuses, throat, nose, or head area can be managed by Nasya.
