What is Qigong?

Qigong is a powerful, holistic system of healing and energy that focuses on the integration of breathing, movement, and mindfulness/focused intention. Qigong practice combines the power of the mind with breathing and movement. With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy, and martial arts, Qigong is practiced to maintain health, increase healing and vitality, and balance life energy. In Chinese culture, it’s the most efficient way to manipulate energy flow through the body. With a calm and meditative state of mind, Qigong is performed using slow, coordinated movements and deep rhythmic breathing.

Breath provides the anchor for the mind to become present. Yogic breathing practices (Pranayama) work as subtle tools to manipulate the quality of attention, concentration, and learning. Through the practice of mindfulness, we cultivate clear presence and awareness. Together, these practices harness the power of the mind and draw it inward. An inward-focused mind enhances the awareness of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual experiences.

Why is Qigong important?

Qigong at Natural Rhythms Integrative MedicinePracticing the integration and balance of body, breath, and mind represents a progressive path toward the mastery of the physiological and spiritual energy systems. In day-to-day living, we are deeply affected by our experiences at mental, emotional, and physical levels. Without awareness, these effects remain hidden and cause imbalances within our mind, body, and soul.

By maintaining a regular practice of Qigong, a person is able to find improvement in and maintenance of health and happiness. It empowers a clear and focused mind to extract self-knowledge from life’s experiences, and it serves as a tool for energetic self-care, protection, and self-realization.

How do you learn the practice of Qigong?

At Natural Rhythms Integrative Medicine, Dr. Anup Mulakaluri offers individualized or group classes to initiate patients in the discipline of Qigong. The classes then empower each individual to practice the system at home or within nature.
